Federal or state? Authorities can’t agree on who’s responsible for fate of the Aquagenie



The Department of Health said it only managed health-related issues on the vessel and confirmed no other crew members had reported signs of illness.


The Aquagenie has been docked off the coast of Karratha since March 28, after making the voyage from Manila to load a shipment of iron ore destined for China from Port Walcott.

A crew member first returned a positive rapid COVID-19 test on board the vessel on April 8 and was later evacuated to Karratha Health Campus, where he returned a second positive test.

He was later airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital but has since been discharged into hotel quarantine.
